Various methods used to identify plane crash victims

KLANG: The identities of the plane crash victims were determined through various pathology techniques, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

“Several methods were used, including fingerprint matching techniques and checking DNA and dental records.

“All 10 victims were identified due to the hard work of those involved, especially members of the forensic teams,” he told a press conference at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah’s mortuary.

Comm Hussein said the identification process was completed on Saturday night, and the decision was made to release the remains to their respective families yesterday.

“I had a meeting with all agencies involved and was informed the identification process was concluded on Saturday night.

“We collectively decided to release the remains of the nine victims today (yesterday). The remains of one victim were released to his family on Saturday,” he said.

Comm Hussein said police had also taken the statements of several car owners who recorded the incident on their car dashboard cameras to help the authorities in their investigations.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and we will see if there is a need to call on more individuals to assist in the investigation,” he said.

Nine vans were used to transport the remains of the nine victims to their respective funeral and burial sites.

The process was conducted in stages at the mortuary starting at 9am and ending two hours later.

Family members were seen at the mortuary waiting for their turn to receive the remains.
