Ipoh retiree charged with hurting wife with stick


IPOH: A retiree has been charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.

P. Subramaniam, 65, pleaded not guilty after the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 326A of the same Act, before Sessions Court judge Azizah Ahmad here on Tuesday (Aug 22).

Subramaniam, a former Tenaga Nasional Bhd employee, was said to have hit his wife S. Shanta Kumari, 54, with a stick at a house in Taman Pertama here on Aug 20 at 1.14am.

Lawyer Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah said her client, who is a retiree, does not have a stable income.

"He works on a small farm," she said, adding that Subramaniam has three children, aged 26, 24 and 19.

Judge Azizah set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and ordered that Subramaniam not disturb the witnesses until the case is complete.

She also set Oct 3 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Qurratu'aini Khalifah prosecuted.
