IPOH: An unemployed man's wife informed the Magistrate's Court here of her intention to retract a police report against her husband, who had threatened her earlier this month, for the sake of their young family.
S. Premlata, 36, told Magistrate Jesseca Daimis that they still have two young children to care for and she would post bail for G. Ganesan, 38.
Ganesan had earlier been charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation in court here on Tuesday (Aug 22).
He had also pleaded guilty.
Ganesan was said to have committed the offence at a house in Taman Idaman Chemor on Aug 7 at about 7.30pm.
The accused was said to have run amok, scolding his wife, trying to hit her with a helmet and also threatening to burn the house down.
During the proceedings, Ganesan had pleaded for a fine instead of jail, and said that his wife would pay it if meted out.
Jesseca then stood down the court and asked for Premlata to be present to verify what Ganesan had said.
When proceedings resumed, Premlata confirmed to the court that she wanted to retract the police report.
"I want to give him a second chance.
"If he does it again, then give him a punishment and I won't interfere.
"It is his first time (being detained), I hope he learns how hard it is to be in a lock-up," added Premlata, who works as a clerk.
Jesseca then gave Premlata a ticking off and said it was not a trivial matter to lodge a police report.
"A police report is not a frivolous matter that can be lodged on a whim to threaten and to see if someone will repent or not," she said.
She then set bail at RM3,000 with one surety to be paid by a family member other than the wife.
She also set Sept 19 for mention.
