'Imam Al-Nawawi 40 Hadith' module will help shape morals, says Pahang Mufti

KUANTAN: The implementation of the "Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith" appreciation module in secondary schools is seen to help shape better moral values of the Muslim students, says Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman (pic).

He said that the hadith should be known and studied by Muslims because it covers all aspects of life.

"Matters of worship, manners, socialising and so on are touched upon in the hadith...it is usually the adults who learn it and it is very good if the students are given the exposure,” he told Bernama on Wednesday (Aug 23).

On Saturday (Aug 19) the Education Ministry launched the module, aimed at fostering the values of the Prophet Muhammad’s sayings or ‘hadith’ at the school level.

The module will first be implemented at National Religious Secondary Schools (SMKA) and Government Aided Religious Schools (SABK) before being expanded to schools under the ministry next year.

Meanwhile, Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Piatu, Bentong Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) president Amir Rozaini Ahmad Rani said that the application of the basics of religious understanding through the module can shape the moral values of students in line with the teachings of Islam despite the influence of the internet and social media.

"Disseminating good advice through the appreciation of the hadith can help shape one’s character. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the explanation is made using simple language so that the message can be understood directly by the students,” he said.

Similarly, the vice-chancellor of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS) Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zawavi Zainal Abidin said the proactive move was seen as the government's effort to raise the field of hadith, especially among the younger generation.

"This initiative is very good because sometimes less exposure is given regarding the hadith when in fact it is the second reference after the Quran. We always support and are ready to help with anything related to hadith if needed in the future, because it is in line with the university's focus to empower the field of hadith,” he said. - Bernama
