SHAH ALAM: The people's personal data is not being misused to register them for the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan), says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor Mentri Besar said that the state government obtained permissible public data from the Election Commission which was only used to pre-register potential recipients for insurance coverage.
"Those who have been pre-registered would have to verify (their identities) by sending in a selfie with their identity cards," Amirudin said at a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 23) after announcing the portfolios of his ten-member state executive committee.
He said only those who had done the verification would have their information added into the system.
He was responding to allegations from certain individuals that personal data was being used arbitrarily without their consent to register them for the Insan scheme.
Amirudun also said the insurer for the scheme would be directed to provide a detailed explanation on how the registration and subsequent issuance of the insurance policy will be carried out.
He also said that the pre-registration process was done so potential recipients would not need to be registered one by one, which would be time-consuming.
"However, we will tighten control, especially if there is a breach of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012," said Amirudin.
