A WOMAN who had just given birth was drugged and her infant nabbed at a hospital in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Makkal Osai reported.

The 37-year-old mother, identified only as Suryakala, was in the hospital ward after delivering her third child four days ago when she was approached by a seemingly friendly woman named Padma.

After having a meal together, the new mother felt drowsy and fell asleep. When she woke up, her baby was missing.

Her family made a police report when no one could locate the newborn child.

Police who rushed to the hospital went through more than 500 CCTV recordings to find the footage of Padma leaving the hospital with Suryakala’s baby.

They also managed to find CCTV footage of Padma boarding a bus to Thiruvannamalai city.

Padma and her husband were soon arrested and the baby was found with them.

Eventually, the infant was safely returned to the relieved mother.
