Local businesses get to connect with more than 470 overseas buyers

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 470 buyers from 40 countries have signed up for the flagship International Sourcing Programme (INSP) at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2023.

This number has exceeded the target number of international buyers set by the organiser, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

INSP MIHAS comprises pre-arranged one-to-one business meetings, both physical and virtual, which connect international buyers with Malaysian suppliers of halal products and services.

The physical INSP will be held on Sept 11 at Menara MATRADE in Kuala Lumpur, hosting buyers from the Middle East, Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, South-East Asia, Oceania, the Americas and Africa regions.

The virtual INSP is now online from March 20 till Nov 30. Registration and participation is free of charge.

“The higher number of international buyers participating in INSP this year proves that MIHAS is the trusted platform for sourcing of high-quality halal products and services,” says MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz.

“This opens up new export opportunities for Malaysian companies, particularly small and medium businesses (SMEs), to conveniently link with serious foreign buyers.

“Last year’s INSP MIHAS connected 510 Malaysian companies with 389 international buyers, generating deals worth RM745.2mil for Malaysian exporters, and we expect an equally successful programme this year.

“We encourage Malaysian businesses not to miss this lucrative opportunity to expand their exports into new markets by meeting foreign buyers brought here to your doorstep.”

At INSP MIHAS 2023, Malaysian companies can connect with 12 premium buyers from Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Qatar, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. These buyers represent some of the largest conglomerates, retailers and supermarkets in their countries.

Participating international buyers at INSP MIHAS this year are keen to source products from the following halal sectors:

> Food and beverage

> Food technology and packaging> Ecommerce

> Cosmetics and personal care

> Pharmaceuticals and medicals> Modest fashion and lifestyle

> Education

> Islamic finance and fintech

> Retail and franchise

> Services and enablers

> Media and recreation

> Islamic arts and crafts

> Muslim-friendly hospitality and tourism.

MIHAS, hosted by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and organised by MATRADE, is the world’s largest showcase dedicated for the halal industry.

MIHAS 2023 marks its 19th series, which will be held from Sept 12 to 15 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. For more information, go to https://mihas.com.my, www.matrade.gov.my/en/insp-mihas-2023, call the INSP MIHAS secretariat (03-6207 7077) or email inspmihas@matrade.gov.my .
