Fire damages two factories in Kepong, man suffers burns on both hands


KUALA LUMPUR: A 45-year-old factory director was injured in a fire at two factories in Kepong.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Rozihan Anwar Mamat said they received the distress call at 10.13am and 50 firemen along with eight vehicles were deployed to the scene.

"We arrived on scene at 10.23am.

"We discovered that fire had engulfed a motorcycle spare parts factory as well as a paper processing factory," he said at the scene of the fire on Thursday (Aug 24).

Fire fighters manage to have the fire under control at 12.36pm, he said.

"The motorcycle spare parts factory was completely destroyed while the paper processing factory was 20% damaged.

"We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other factories in the area," he said.

The victim, who is the director of the paper processing factory injured both his hands in the fire, he said.

"He suffers 10% burns to his hands.

"He was sent to Hospital Selayang for treatment," he said.

Firemen are still sweeping the scene to ensure there are no more fire embers in the area, he added.

"We are still investigating the cause of the fire," he said.
