PUTRAJAYA: The Perdana Fellows Programme will give a chance to youth to be trained to become future leaders, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the mentoring and internship programme would allow youths to get to know ministers more closely and how they carry out their duties.
“It is a programme that provides good exposure, not only to be mentored by the ministers, but also to understand their daily work routine, traditions as well as the work convention within the government.
“It will give (them) a chance to understand policies,” he said in his opening speech at the 2023 Perdana Fellows presentation ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex here yesterday.
A total of 56 youths have been selected for the Perdana Fellows Programme this year, which started yesterday and will go on until Dec 31. Participants will receive guidance from ministers, who will mentor two participants for their ministries.
All graduate participants will receive a monthly allowance of RM2,000, while others who are still studying will be given RM1,000.
Anwar will personally mentor two students – namely Dayang Nur Syawanie Abang Redzuan who is a graduate from the European School of Political and Social Sciences in France, and Muhamamad Firdaus Ali, who is studying at Shiga University in Japan.
The programme is coordinated by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
Anwar said participants of the Perdana Fellows Programme were picked from among top performing graduates and students throughout the country.
