Hadith module will not involve non-Muslim students, says Education Ministry

PETALING JAYA: The Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith module will not involve non-Muslim students, says Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.

She said that she understands the anxiousness of the non-Muslim community on the issue.

"Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek at the Post-Cabinet Meeting yesterday gave an assurance that the module will only be used by Muslim students, and will not involve non-Muslim students," said Lim.

"I understand the anxiety of the non-Muslim community on this issue. However, they do not need to worry because this module applies to Muslim students only and will not involve non-Muslim students at all," she added in a statement on Thursday (Aug 24).

She said when the module is introduced to national schools as well as schools under the ministry, it will only be for Muslim students.

"No non-Muslim students will be involved in learning this module. Non-Muslim students, just like now, will continue to attend Moral Education classes," said Lim.

"The Ministry is determined to ensure that all students from various backgrounds, races and religions are always treated fairly and equitably," she added.

She also said that Muslim students would continue to receive appropriate religious education, while at the same time ensuring that the rights and freedoms of non-Muslim students would always be guaranteed as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
