No statement issued on probe of Public Service DG, says MACC

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied issuing a media statement purportedly on a corruption investigation involving Public Service director-general Datuk Dr Zulkapli Mohamed.

The anti-graft agency said it did not issue such a statement dated Aug 23.

"The move to issue the fake statement is done with ill intent and is meant to confuse the public.

"We urge the public not to share information that is fake or if its authenticity cannot be determined," MACC said on Thursday (Aug 24).

In April, the Prime Minister’s Department had issued a statement to debunk claims that an investigation was being carried out on the Public Service director-general as well as the Chief Secretary to the Government over alleged power abuse.

In July, it then denied that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had issued a statement saying an investigating committee had been set up to probe Zulkapli.
