Strong and stable government is important to build the economy, says Anwar

IPOH: No foreign investors will come to Malaysia if the Prime Minister changes every year, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said it was important to have a strong and stable government in order to build the economy.

"If they (investors) come, who will they negotiate with?

"The government must be strong so that we can focus on building our economy," he said in his speech during the opening of the Rahmah Kasih Sayang Mega Sale@Tambun at a hypermarket in Manjoi here on Thursday (Aug 24).

Anwar said many countries, including some rich ones, tried to get (Tesla Motors chief executive officer) Elon Musk to invest but failed.

"He chose Malaysia. I told him that we have a stable government, peaceful country and good economic policies," he said.

The Prime Minister said the money from investors would be used to assist the people.

"Where do we get the money to help the people? It is from taxes but we cannot tax the poor. It must be from successful companies," he said.

Anwar added that the government would not treat the cost of living issue lightly.

"It is a problem all over the world. It is not easy but we will find ways and try our best to address it," he said.
