Umno Youth: Unacceptable for Nga to downplay DAP logo on mock cheques

PETALING JAYA: All leaders should know that it is wrong to involve political parties in any government matters on distribution of funds, says Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh.

Therefore, he said it was unacceptable for Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming to dismiss recent criticisms over DAP’s logo appearing on mock cheques for school donations as not being an issue.

"It is morally wrong to mix political party involvement in the management or distribution of government funds and this should be avoided.

"As a politician, regardless of party, this is a basic thing he (Nga) should know," Dr Akmal added on Thursday (Aug 24).

On Wednesday (Aug 23), Nga said it did not matter if DAP's logo was on the mock cheque.

"No issue. What’s most important is that the schools receive the donation," he told reporters.

The issue started on Saturday (Aug 19) after Nga was seen in several photographs handing over mock cheques bearing the logos of DAP, Pakatan Harapan and Malaysia Madani, as well as Malaysia’s coat of arms.

It was reported that 17 Chinese primary and secondary schools in Perak were granted an allocation of RM1.8mil by the Education Ministry.

Various leaders criticised the move, with MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon saying that it was an abuse of power and blurred the lines between the government and political parties.
