Army Red Warrior stunt team promises heart-stopping performance on National Day

KUALA LUMPUR: A man on a motorcycle soaring above 66 Royal Enfield bikes – this is one of the heart-stopping performances promised by the Army Red Warrior Motorcycle Acrobatics team as part of the National Day celebrations which will take place at Dataran Putrajaya, on Aug 31.

The stunt will be performed by Sergeant Saidatul Husna Kamaruddin, 34, using a 250cc Kawasaki Scrambler, with the 66 Royal Enfield motorcycles representing the country's 66 years of independence.

Army Red Warrior commanding officer Major Mohd Shah Rizad Mohd Yusof said the performance on National Day will be the first collaboration between the Army Red Warrior team and the global brand, Royal Enfield.

He said Saidatul Husna, the record holder of the longest motorcycle jump by a woman in the Malaysian Book of Records, will perform the more-than-30m jump on Aug 31 during the special performance slot under the strength and efficiency segment.

"There are two types of motorcycles used by the Army Red Warrior team for acrobatic stunts; the first is a carrier motorcycle with riders who will showcase skills in various formations while a scrambler motorcycle is used for more extreme stunts," he said.

Mohd Shah said as part of preparations for the upcoming performance, the team consisting of two officers and 48 members, started training on Aug 7, with logistical preparations such as motorcycle maintenance made earlier.

He added that as training entered the final stage, 20 stuntmen and two stuntwomen, including Saidatul Husna, showed a high level of commitment and motivation to make the show a success.

He said selecting the team for the performance were made according to three principles, namely skill, knowledge and attitude.

"I am sure they can deliver their best. Apart from courage, the cooperation between the team members including management officers and the meticulous logistics, technical and medical teams are also very important to produce an exciting performance on Aug 31," he said.

Meanwhile, Saidatul Husna could not hide her excitement to make the historic jump on Aug 31, which is also her birthday.

"I'm excited, but at the same time nervous so I have to prepare mentally and physically as much as possible to ensure the success of this mission.

"For the jump, I am using a 250cc Kawasaki Scrambler, the same type I used to when creating the Malaysian record in March during the Army Tattoo held in conjunction with the 90th Army Day in Port Dickson." said Saidatul Husna, who has been with the Army Red Warrior team for 13 years.

"The training with the actual distance will be done in Putrajaya during the partial rehearsal on Aug 28. The training I am doing now is to build my confidence even though I have done this type of stunt many times," said the mother of one.

On Aug 31, Army Red Warrior will feature 19 motorcycles including Scrambler Kawasaki KLX 450cc and 250cc; Naza Cruise 250cc, Honda CB400, Birmingham Small Arms (BSA), Guzzi and Modenas Jaguh.

While they are not aiming to create any records at the performance, the team is eager to successfully jump over 66 motorcycles for the first time in its history. – Bernama
