Brief closure of Putrajaya airspace for National Day celebration, rehearsal

PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya airspace will be closed for 60 minutes daily from tomorrow (Aug 26) until Aug 31 to pave the way for the National Day 2023 preparation and celebration.

As such, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) Supplement to advise on temporary changes to the controlled airspace and air traffic management in and around the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur airspace.

It said the document was issued to accommodate the event involving the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the National Day 2023 parade, which is part of the 66th National Day Celebrations in Putrajaya on Aug 31.

"The objective of these changes is to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic before, during and after the aerial flypast and para jump, taking into account the increase in the number of movements and the special handling needed throughout this event,” it said.

The Putrajaya airspace would be closed from 11am to 12pm from Aug 26 to Aug 28 for aerial flypast rehearsal, and from 9.45am to 10.45am on Aug 29 and Aug 31, respectively, for full dress rehearsal and actual day.

As many flights are expected to arrive at and depart from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) shortly before and after the closure of airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area (TMA), airline operators are advised to plan their flights to arrive or depart well before or after the closure to avoid delays.

"Aircraft operators are also advised to take into consideration the possibility of delay of arrival into KLIA or klia2 after closure and to plan for sufficient fuel in the event that holding is required,” said CAAM.

Meanwhile, CAAM said as the helicopter operation and para jump activity will take effect from Aug 25 to 31 from 7.45am to 8.55am daily, KLIA and klia2 operations will remain open during the period.

‘Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan’ (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope) has been chosen as the theme of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2023 celebration. - Bernama
