Hospital development fund will be Johor govt’s main request under Budget 2024

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The development fund for Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA 2) will be the Johor government’s priority request for Budget 2024, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said the Health and Defence ministries are on board with the plan.

“This project has been at the top of my list every time I get a chance to meet with the Prime Minister because the demand is there.

“The HSA is unable to sustain the needs for healthcare services and we have identified suitable land with the close cooperation between the Health and Defence ministries,” he said in his speech at the dialogue session with the Prime Minister under the Budget 2024 Roadshow at Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar here on Friday (Aug 25).

The programme was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Onn Hafiz said he was thankful that the Federal Government had chosen Johor as the first state to conduct the roadshow.

“We will also be requesting for a budget to repair roads, for water supply and flood mitigation projects.

“There is also a need to upgrade the schools, provide incentives to attract more investments and to expand the Internet connectivity,” he added.

He said Johor received RM70.6bil in foreign direct investments last year.

The previously announced budget to improve the highway network in Pengerang and upgrade stretches of the North-South Expressway in February this year would also benefit the people, he added.

On July 13, Onn Hafiz was reported as saying that a special committee would be formed to discuss the construction of HSA 2.

He had met with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan over the matter, as the piece of land in Skudai, earmarked as the site for the hospital project, is owned by the ministry.
