KUALA PILAH: The appointment of the 10 Negri Sembilan executive council (exco) members is said to be the result of an agreement between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, as well as discussion from the parties’ grassroots to leadership levels.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said he was optimistic that the leadership would do their best in the administration of the state, thus ensuring the success of Negri Sembilan’s unity agenda and aspirations.

“We have an excellent composition which includes new and old faces, and for the first time in our state administration, we have (Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias) as a senior member.

“The portfolios have been arranged according to their seniority, capability and ability of the council members, comprising assemblymen from the unity government coalition parties, of whom six are new and four are old faces,” he said to reporters.

Aminuddin expressed hope that all exco members will bring about changes and drive the development of the state.

Those with experience and who have served as exco members before, he said, would help newly appointed exco to govern and manage the state well.

Aminuddin, who is also Sikamat assemblyman, said the appointment of three female members shows that the state government does not marginalise women.

Pertang assemblyman Jalaluddin said the decision on the exco line-up was agreed upon collectively by all parties for the sake of the unity government’s stability.

“The decision was made after taking various aspects into account, and we agreed on the breakdown of BN (four), DAP (four) and two for PKR,” Jalaluddin added.

The state Umno chairman said Barisan and Pakatan, as part of a unity government, will drive the administration of Negri Sembilan and work harder for the well-being of the people.

“We will ensure all development agendas and work on infrastructure facilities will be implemented immediately as pledged in the manifesto,” he said.

The 10 executive councillors, including six new faces, were sworn in before Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir yesterday. The ceremony started at 10.15am at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

Also present at the ceremony were Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud and Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, Bernama reported.

The six new faces are Jalaluddin (senior exco member), Noorzunita Begum Mohd Ibrahim, Datuk Ismail Lasim, Mustapha Nagoor, Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli and Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman. Teo Kok Seong, Nicole Tan, J. Arul Kumar and S. Veerapan were reappointed.

Pakatan and Barisan formed the state government after capturing 17 and 14 seats in the Aug 12 state elections, while Perikatan Nasional took five seats.
