Sarawak adamant on teaching Science and Maths in English

SIBU: Sarawak will not stop using English to teach Science and Mathematics in schools, says Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

"The state government will never revert to using Bahasa Malaysia to teach the two subjects.

"Last time, we taught Mathematics and Science in English, but changed it to Bahasa Malaysia," said the state Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister.

He said it took the state four years ago to get back to teaching the two subjects in English.

"By hook or by crook, we will proceed with teaching the subjects in English," he said after opening the Postponement of Sarawak Zone KV Skills Competition at Sibu Vocational College on Friday (Aug 25).

Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, said Sarawak has been using English since the implementation of the Dual Language Programme in 2019.

Dr Annuar said the state government had spent RM18mil on facilities, training teachers and books since it started the programme.
