Duo facing death for trafficking over 400kg of drugs


IPOH: Two men are facing the gallows for trafficking in over 400kg of drugs after they were charged at a Magistrate’s Court here.

Choong Boon Wah and Seng Chung Leong, both 44, were jointly slapped with four charges of trafficking in nimetazepam at a house in Jalan Sri Klebang, Chemor, on Aug 15.

The charges were read out to them in Mandarin before magistrate S. Punitha here yesterday.

They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same law, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The offence carries the death sentence upon conviction.

No plea was recorded.

Punitha fixed Nov 16 for mention pending a chemist report.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Hidayu Zakaria prosecuted. Both the accused were represented by lawyer Asyraaf Abu Bakar Hamzah.

At a separate court, the duo pleaded not guilty to possession of two imitation guns with magazines.

They claimed trial after the charge was read jointly in Mandarin before magistrate Jesseca Daimis.

Both the accused face a maximum one-year jail or fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, upon conviction under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960.

Jesseca set Oct 6 for the case mention.
