Thousands pay summonses at discounted rate at police carnival

SHAH ALAM: Motorists thronged the PDRM Selangor Merdeka Ride and Carnival here to pay their outstanding summonses at a discounted rate.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the special offer was given to certain traffic offences.

He urged those at the event to not miss the opportunity to settle their outstanding summonses.

"I see a few thousand people and many are still lining up. This is a one-day offer and only lasts till 5pm on Saturday (Aug 26)," he said.

Regarding the carnival, he said police would make it a yearly affair in conjunction with National Day celebrations.

"The programme is a boon to community policing because it allows the public to interact directly with the police.

"We have also opened many booths showcasing (the functions and abilities of) various units within the force and the public are able to share and receive information, especially in sexual-related and commercial crimes," he added.

Police had announced that a special 50% discount for selected summonses would be given to motorists at the carnival.
