Two teens killed after car rams into tree in JB

JOHOR BARU: Two 19-year-olds died on the spot when their car rammed into a tree while on the way into the city centre here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident took place at around 2am on Saturday (Aug 26) when they were heading from Skudai.

"When they were travelling along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, the 19-year-old driver lost control of the car and swerved into a tree on the left side of the road.

"The impact caused the vehicle to spin and turn turtle. The driver and his passenger, also 19 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement.

In a separate accident on Friday (Aug 25), ACP Raub said a motorcyclist died on the spot after crashing into a stationary lorry along the same road.

"The incident took place at about 6.30pm where the male motorcyclist, in his 40s, travelled from Johor Baru heading towards Skudai.

"Suddenly, he lost control of his motorcycle, fell and slid under a lorry that was parked by the roadside.

"He fell head first and died on the spot," he added.

Both cases were being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged road users to be alert on the road to avoid untoward incidents.
