81-year-old man killed in Bkt Gambir fire


TANGKAK: An 81-year-old man was killed after a fire broke out at his house in Kampung Sungai Pilah, Bukit Gambir here.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Rafiah Aziz said they received a distress call at 6.16am on Sunday (Aug 27).

"A total of 16 personnel were deployed, together with two fire trucks.

"Upon arrival, the house was already 80% destroyed by the fire and we managed to put it out at 6.54am," she said in a statement.

She added that an inspection of the house revealed the remains of an elderly man.

"The man was pronounced dead at the location by the medical team," she said, adding that the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Tangkak deputy OCPD DSP Idris Abdul Rahman confirmed the police have received a report on the case.
