Boy told to warm up car reverses vehicle into eatery in Melaka

MELAKA: A 16-year-old boy inadvertently reversed a car into an eatery at Tanjung Kling, Pantai Puteri here, sending 13 customers running helter-skelter.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said that there were some light injuries in the 2.43pm incident on Saturday (Aug 26) and all have received medical treatment.

He said the teenager was told by his 51-year-old mother to warm up the vehicle's engine but he ended up ploughing the car into the eatery.

The teenager and his family were on holiday from Seremban.

ACP Christopher Patit said the car, a multi-purpose vehicle, hit another car parked beside it before crashing into the eatery.

"The teenager is believed to have accidentally moved the vehicle after starting the engine," he said on Sunday (Aug 27).

He said the incident was also caught on CCTV at the eatery.

ACP Christopher Patit said police have initiated an investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act.

In a statement later, he said police have two reports have been lodged over the incident.
