MCA setting new membership KPI for state chiefs

MELAKA: MCA will set a new key performance index (KPI) on member recruitment for state party chiefs, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said to start, he has set a target of 1,000 new young members for party leaders in Melaka.

"I will set the number (for targeted recruitment) for leaders in other states later in a bid to woo the younger generation.

"This will also provide a line of succession for the party's future," he said after opening the Melaka MCA convention at a restaurant in Kota Laksamana here on Sunday (Aug 27).

Also present were MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and Melaka MCA chief Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

Dr Wee said currently, MCA had about 70,000 members under the age of 40 and this should be increased steadily to complement the party's rejuvenation process.

"I am tasking Melaka MCA leaders to get the numbers before setting the target for other states," he said.

Dr Wee said other political parties are also finding ways to woo young members with the lowering of the voting age from 21 to 18.

He added that it was important to listen to the voices of the young Malaysians and include their views on issues relating to jobs and business opportunities to continue to be relevant.
