Police harassment accusation being probed

SHAH ALAM: A man’s allegations of police harassment by a Sepang-based officer will be investigated thoroughly and fairly, the state’s top cop says.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said he was aware of the allegations but could only comment in detail after more facts come to light.

“However, we will need to see that we are fair to both sides throughout our investigations.

“An investigation has already begun and is being handled by the (police contingent) side.

“We will see that the investigations are conducted thoroughly and fairly,” he said to reporters after a Merdeka Ride event at the Shah Alam stadium here yesterday.

He added that he will release a full statement soon.

Earlier this week, in a video uploaded to TikTok, a man claimed he had been harassed by a police officer from the Sepang police headquarters after a third party had filed a report against him over a supposed car sale.

He alleged that the officer had been in cahoots with the complainant and key evidence in the case had been destroyed.

He also alleged that the officer was caught committing khalwat (close proximity) with the complainant and that he would report the matter to the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.

Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, the state police chief was joined by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, in flagging off the 30km bike ride. Both also later took part in a 10km bike ride.

A carnival was also held, showcasing police assets and departments, and also featured displays by private vendors including an antique motorcycle exhibition and a car drifting demonstration.

Later in the day, Comm Hussein said that moving forward, the police will make it a yearly affair in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.

He added that such programmes were a boon to community policing, as it allowed the public to interact directly with the police.

“We also opened booths showcasing the many units within the force, and the public were able to share and receive information – especially in sexual crime and commercial crime matters,” he said.
