Seven permits approved by police for campaigning, ceramah in Johor by-elections

JOHOR BARU: Police here have approved seven permits for ceramah and campaigning for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram by-elections.

Johor police by-election spokesman Supt Ibrahim Mat Som added that as of Sunday (Aug 27), no investigation papers (IPs) have been opened, and those involved in the campaign are advised not to create any provocation.

“For Pulai, we have approved three permits for ceramahs and three permits to campaign, while in Simpang Jeram, we have approved one permit for a ceramah," he said.

“We would like to remind all political parties involved to be respectful of each other and refrain from conducting acts such as damaging their opponent's posters and banners or burning political flags,” he added in a statement.

Supt Ibrahim then said that such an act is a crime, adding that action can be taken under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
