Bukit Aman confirms probing Hadi's remarks at Johor ceramah for sedition

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has opened a probe into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for touching on 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Bukit Aman CID director confirmed that a probe has been opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1947.

Abdul Hadi had allegedly disputed the Pardons Board’s authority during a talk at the Bakri PAS headquarters in Johor on Saturday (Aug 26).

"The investigation is with regard to a speech he made during the Ceramah Perdana Perikatan Nasional at Bakri, Muar, on Aug 26,” said Comm Mohd Shuhaily.

"We are also investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia and Act for misuse of networking facilities," he added when speaking to reporters at Bukit Aman on Monday (Aug 28).

He said police had already contacted Abdul Hadi to arrange for his statement to be recorded.

"I hope the community does not speculate on the matter and create chaos, especially this close to the Pulai by-election," he said.

Earlier, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat had said that investigations would be carried out by Bukit Aman.

Abdul Hadi has also said he would cooperate with the police in any probe.
