PETALING JAYA: Drone flying is strictly prohibited in the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area (TMA) airspace prior to and on National Day, says the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
CAAM chief executive officer Datuk Capt Norazman Mahmud said that this is to avoid any unwanted incidents, especially involving the safety and security of the public and operating aircraft.
“The use of drones without approval is feared to disrupt the airshow and exercise throughout the 66th National Day celebration in Putrajaya,” said Norazman.
“Enforcement activities will be carried out by CAAM and the Royal Malaysian Police Drone Unit to monitor any illegal drone operations,” he added in a statement on Monday (August 28).
Norazman added that the airspace closure was also to make way for an aerial flypast carried out by the Royal Malaysian Air Force in conjunction with the 66th National Day celebration in Putrajaya.
“Any aviation activities that may cause a danger to the public or property are subject to Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 (Act3), Regulation 98 and Regulation 140-144, Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 and Civil Aviation Directives,” said Norazman.
