JOHOR BARU: PAS will hold a dialogue soon with its non-Muslim counterparts in Gerakan about the “Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith” module for schools, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said the party was always in communication with its Perikatan Nasional component parties on various issues.
“We are always in touch with Gerakan. This is not the first time or issue that we (will be giving an explanation) about,” he told reporters after attending a dialogue session with Pulai voters at Taman Tampoi Utama here yesterday.
He was asked to comment on the hadith appreciation module, which was said to have caused anxiety among non-Muslims.
The implementation of the pilot programme of the “Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith” appreciation module will involve 61 national religious secondary schools and 228 government-aided religious schools nationwide.
Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau issued a statement yesterday, saying there should be a moderate approach to be adopted by all.
“The early statements by the authorities on this matter had been too ‘macro’ and caused anxiety among the people, especially non-Muslim parents and students,” he said.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the implementation of the module would ensure Muslim youth would know the true teachings of Islam, adding that it was not being forced on non-Muslims.
