Teen girl feared drowned in Kota Belud river

KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway for a 14-year-old girl feared drowned near Kota Belud on Monday (Aug 28).

Qiezlle Uyiko was reported to have been carried away by the strong currents while swimming with family members at the river next to Daradaat View, Kampung Ratau at around 2.30pm.

“A team from the Kota Belud fire station was sent to the location and is being assisted by the police and Health Ministry officers,” said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

The spokesman added that the search operation is being conducted in two areas, one within a 50-metre radius of where the victim was reported to have drowned and along a 4km stretch of the riverbank.

“Information will be updated from time to time,” he said.
