Mais clears Fahmi over talk in Rawang mosque after probe

SHAH ALAM: The issue of Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil allegedly campaigning in a mosque in Rawang last month is considered to have been resolved following an investigation by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), says its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

He said the investigation found that the Pakatan Harapan communications director only talked about current issues and not political matters.

“He was replying to questions related to the concert and the action taken to end the concert because it had violated the conditions that had been agreed upon,” Abdul Aziz said, referring to British band The 1975 and the behaviour of its frontman.“He did not mention politics in the mosque – in my view, (this issue) is settled.

“He came to pray, he looked for a nearby mosque and surau.

“As a minister, he should provide clear answers to questions asked by congregants,” Abdul Aziz told the media after officiating at the Jalur Gemilang presentation and flagging off the Ziarah Merdeka Mais Convoy here yesterday.Several photos of Fahmi had surfaced on social media, with claims that he was speaking about political issues in the main prayer hall of Masjid Nurul Yaqin, Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang. — Bernama
