JAKARTA: Customs officials from Malaysia and Indonesia recently gathered in Medan, North Sumatra, to review past efforts, address challenges, and pave the way for future collaborations to enhance cross-border trade.
The Malaysian delegation was led by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department director-deneral Datuk Zazuli Johan, while the Indonesians were led by the Directorate-General of Customs and Excise (DGCE) director-general Askolani.
During the 19th bilateral meeting, both agencies discussed making customs procedures better, aiming to strengthen rules, combat violations and facilitate smoother trade processes.
They delved into an array of customs, supervision, and excise matters, including topics such as good governance practices, capacity building, enforcement, and the oversight of narcotics-related activities.
The Coordinated Customs Patrol Indonesia-Malaysia or Patkor Kastima and the Joint Task Force on Narcotics received special attention during the discussions, according to DGCE in a statement.
It also shared data and information about its customs and excise laboratory as Malaysian Customs is studying setting up a similar lab.
As part of the bilateral meeting series, a study visit to the Medan Class II Customs and Excise Laboratory was conducted. - Bernama
