New M-M licence plates up for grabs starting Aug 31, says Loke

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians can start bidding for the special registration vehicle plate with prefix and suffix of M in conjunction with the 66th Merdeka Day celebration starting Thursday (Aug 31).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the special registration plate prefix and suffix of “M... M” symbolises “Malaysia Merdeka” and will be available for bidding over the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) e-Bid portal until Sept 4.

“The minimum bidding for golden numbers starts at RM20,000 followed by attractive numbers at RM3,000; popular numbers at RM800 and running numbers at RM300,” he said in a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday (Aug 29).

Loke added that all successful biddings of the numbers must be registered on a vehicle within 12 months from the official results of the biddings being issued.

The results of the bid will be announced on Sept 5th within 24 hours.

Last year, Loke said the ministry managed to generate RM34mil from the sale of the special “FF” vehicle registration series to mark JPJ’s 77th anniversary.
