PETALING JAYA: Former PAS ulama council member Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani has withdrawn his appeal against a High Court ruling in a defamation suit against Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa from Amanah.
Ahmad Dusuki had initially filed for defamation over a Twitter (now known as X) post by Mujahid in November 2020, which claimed that Ahmad Dusuki had lied about Tabung Haji assets being sold to non-Muslims during Mujahid's tenure as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs).
Mujahid said his lawyer Noorazmir Zakaria had informed him that Ahmad Dusuki withdrew his appeal at the Putrajaya Court of Appeal and had to pay RM5,000 in fees.
"With Dusuki's decision to withdraw his appeal, it officially ends the claims spread by him and PAS that Tabung Haji assets were sold to non-Muslims during my tenure," he said in a Facebook post Tuesday (Aug 29).
Mujahid said both the Sessions Court and High Court confirmed that Tabung Haji assets were not sold to non-Muslims as claimed by Ahmad Dusuki.
"My tweet, which hit out at Ahmad Dusuki, was justified because it is a natural response to his statement posted to YouTube on Feb 20, 2020, claiming that Tabung Haji had sold Muslim assets to non-Muslims," he said.
“I am grateful that my name has been cleared and I would like to thank my lawyer.
“I hope this is the end of the false allegations surrounding the issue,” he added.
Mujahid said Ahmad Dusuki was ordered to pay him a total of RM23,000, including RM11,000 at the Sessions Court, RM7,000 at the High Court and RM5,000 at the Court of Appeal.
