Police confirm probe on Hadi

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has begun investigating PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for allegedly touching on issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty), says federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

He said the investigation comes under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1947, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000, three years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

The probe is related to his speech during Ceramah Perdana Perikatan Nasional in Bakri, Muar, on Aug 26, in which he had allegedly questioned the authority of the Pardons Board.

Police are also investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said Abdul Hadi has been contacted by the police to arrange a time for him to have his statement recorded.

“The police have recorded 88 cases related to 3R so far this year.“As long as there is a report lodged, we will definitely investigate until those responsible are brought to justice,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman yesterday.

Abdul Hadi’s political secretary Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman said the PAS president is ready to cooperate with the police in relation to his speech.

He added that Abdul Hadi received a call from Bukit Aman on the matter yesterday.

Mohd Syahir said the police wanted to obtain information from the PAS leader after a report was lodged about his speech at the Simpang Jeram by-election campaign event.

“Tuan Guru expressed his willingness to give full cooperation to Bukit Aman.

“Prior to this, he had already given his statement and handed over the device belonging to his official Facebook administrator to Bukit Aman, as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to assist the investigation,” Mohd Syahir, who is Bachok MP, said in a statement.

The device in question is a mobile phone.

Mohd Syahir added that Abdul Hadi has full faith in the professionalism of the police and MCMC in carrying out their duties and investigations.

Meanwhile, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Abdul Hadi allegedly made the statement during the ceramah at the Bakri PAS division headquarters on Saturday.

“We would like to remind the public not to touch on 3R to ensure public safety and order are maintained.

“Action will be taken against anyone if they touch on these issues, regardless of their political affiliation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

In his speech, Abdul Hadi said that in Islam, only the victim can pardon and forgive his accuser.“Not the Pardons Board where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister and Attorney General are members.

“In Islam, the accuser has to seek forgiveness from the victim, but if the victim dies, then the accuser has to seek pardon from the victim’s parents, siblings or next of kin,” he had said.
