Pulai polls: Make sure campaign materials follow council rules, JB mayor tells parties

JOHOR BARU: Political parties and candidates contesting in the Pulai by-election must ensure their campaign materials adhere to the regulations set by the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), says mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman.

He added that the ongoing campaign for the Pulai parliamentary seat will end by 11.59pm on Sept 8, which is a Friday night.

“MBJB has issued permits allowing political parties that have applied to put up campaign materials such as banners and posters.

“Candidates and their parties must comply with agreements and provisions under MBJB;s Election Advertisement by-law 1990 and 2020 amendments," he said when chairing the council's full meeting at Menara MBJB here on Wednesday (Aug 30).

He added that campaign banners and posters should not obstruct any traffic lights, road signs or street lights.

“All parties must ensure that the campaign materials are perfect, not worn, torn, detached or fallen on the road or any public area so as to cause an obstruction.

“If there is a violation of conditions, MBJB reserves the right to (forfeit) the (party or candidate's) deposit (for putting up campaign materials),” he added.

Mohd Noorazam also said any permit holder who violates the council's conditions may be fined up to RM2,000 and an additional RM200 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
