Sarawak's dabai fruit on the menu for King's Sibu visit

SIBU: The seasonal dabai or "Sarawak olive" will be among the local delicacies that will be served to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah when he visits the Central Market here.

"The menu for His Majesty's light breakfast also includes pulut panggang (grilled glutinous rice rolls) and kampua noodles," Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting said on Wednesday (August 30).

Ting told the council's full board meeting here that the King would ride in a golf cart from a hotel to the market on the morning of Sept 12.

"We have prepared five golf carts for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and his entourage to the Central Market.

"His Majesty will tour the market to see especially the ayam bungkus (chicken wrapped in newspaper) and dine with the locals," Ting added.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah will set off on the Sarawak leg of their Kembara Kenali Borneo tour from Sept 7 to 13.

They are expected to arrive here from Bintulu on Sept 11.

Their Majesties' first stop would be at Yu Lung Tian En Si Temple followed by a community dinner at Malay Union Club Hall.
