Firemen's swift action saves mother and son trapped in burning house


KUALA LUMPUR: Quick action by firemen saved a mother and her son who were trapped in their burning house in Serdang near here early Thursday (Aug 31).

Serdang Fire and Rescue Department operations ommander Saharudin Abd Razak said the department was alerted to a fire at a double-storey house at Taman Serdang Raya at 5.35am.

Upon arriving at the scene, teams from the Serdang and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn fire stations, found that a 62-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son were trapped on the top floor of the house, which was engulfed in flames.

"Our men were forced to break open the window grille to rescue the victims, who were semi-conscious by then.

"An emergency medical rescue services team administered oxygen and the victims regained consciousness before the medical team arrived,” he said when contacted.

Saharudin said the cause of the fire, which destroyed 70% of the house, was still being investigated. – Bernama
