Johor cops nab man for damaging political poster


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 62-year-old factory bus driver for allegedly damaging a poster of a political party.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Johor Baru North police received a report about the incident on Friday (August 29) at 10.02pm.

“The political party poster that has been installed in Tampoi had been damaged using a sharp weapon by an irresponsible quarter.

“Based upon intelligence and information, police arrested the male suspect around Skudai Kiri at 5.35am on wee hours of Friday (Sept 1) morning,” he said in a statement here.

Comm Kamarul Zaman added besides the arrest, police also made several seizures from the suspect including a political party flag, a saw edge knife, a dashboard camera, a bus factory and a mobile phone.

He said the suspect was being remanded until Sept 4 to assist with the investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Comm Kamarul Zaman reminded all parties and their supporters to respect each other and not do any damage to campaign materials or do any act of treason against political party property.

“Strict action will be taken against anyone found to break the law,” he said.
