Melaka CM stops to help accident victims


MELAKA: Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stopped to help victims of a fatal accident along the KM207 of the North-South Expressway near Alor Gajah but ended up saddened when he heard that a young factory technician had died.

The Melaka Chief Minister was travelling to work on Friday (Sept 1) along the expressway when he witnessed the accident involving three cars and two motorcycles on Friday (Sept 1).

Ab Rauf, when contacted later, said he was very sad to hear that a 29-year-old had succumbed to his injuries while another motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was being treated at the Melaka Hospital.

He was also briefed on the situation by police officers at the scene.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu identified the deceased as M. Kumaresan from Taman Seri Muda, Shah Alam.

He said is believed to have been run over by a heavy vehicle.

He said the deceased was on his way to Johor Baru from Kuala Lumpur when the accident happened at 6.15am on Friday (Sept 1).

Supt Arshad said the other 27-year-old motorcyclist sustained spinal injuries while the driver of the three cars escaped with no injuries.

He added that the accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
