Perak cops nab four, seize RM440,000 worth of drugs following tip-off

IPOH: More than RM440,000 worth of drugs were seized and four people were arrested during an operation at Tanjung Piandang in Kerian.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police, acting on a tip-off, stopped a car along Jalan Ban at about 10am on Thursday (Aug 31) and arrested four people aged between 19 and 41.

"A check of the car found drugs, believed to be ganja, weighing 5,462g and thought to be worth about RM17,000.

"Following the arrest and seizure, we conducted a sweep of the area and found a bag by the roadside containing 6,416g of WY (yaba) pills and 2,084g of methamphetamine, worth about RM423,500, at around 3.30pm," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 1).

"Those arrested tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and methamphetamine.

"They were also found to have criminal records," he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said the four were believed to have been active in trafficking drugs since June.

"The drugs were meant to be sold in the state, and could be used by about 47,000 people.

"All four will be remanded for seven days until Thursday (Sept 7) to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said.

"The operation was a success (thanks to) continued cooperation from the people.

"We urge the people to keep channelling information related to drug abuse to us so that we can take action to ensure that the state is free from this crime," he added.
