MUAR: A former PAS assemblyman, along with 50 other party members have joined Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

Najib Lep, a former Bukit Pasir assemblyman, submitted his membership form to Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu after a ceramah at Taman Desa here on Saturday (Sept 2) night.

"He has the right (to choose) and he has chosen to be with Amanah.

"We hope he will contribute his ideas and energy to the party in this two (Johor) by-elections," said Mohamad Sabu after receiving the form here.

He claimed that Amanah will be receiving the membership form from another former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader and 150 new members at another event in Johor Baru on Sunday (Sept 3) night.

Talk is rife that former Johor state executive councillor Datuk Mohd Izhar Ahmad will also be joining Amanah.

In a statement earlier, Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said that two former key leaders from PAS and Bersatu, along with 200 members, are expected to join Amanah.

Najib won the Bukit Pasir state seat in the 14th General Election with a 1,883 majority in a straight fight against Umno's Noriah Mahat.

He was the only PAS assemblyman in Johor until the dissolution of the state assembly in 2022.

In the state election, Najib left his former party and contested the same seat as an Independent candidate.

In October last year, he joined Umno and has now moved to Amanah.
