Indonesian couple killed in Kajang house fire

KAJANG: An Indonesian couple were killed in a fire at their double-storey home in Taman Megah here. “An Indonesian man in his 50s and his wife in her 40s suffered burns and suffocated due to the smoke.

“There was another male victim who suffered some injuries but survived,” said Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail.

He said electrical appliances located beneath the stairs of the house were on fire, adding that about 3% of the house’s lower floor was destroyed.

“We are investigating the cause of the blaze,” he said.

A team of firemen was deployed to the scene after a distress call was received at 2.13am yesterday, Wan Md Razali said in a statement.

In an unrelated incident in Ampang, two Nepalese men were detained for breaking the window of a shop in Taman Melawati while intoxicated.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the 33-year-old store manager discovered the broken window when he arrived at the shop at about 8.30am on Friday.

“A check on the CCTV revealed that two men on Wednesday punched the window four times until it broke.

“They then fled the scene,” he said yesterday.

Investigation led police to arrest two Nepalese men, aged 21 and 22, at a mall in Taman Melawati on Friday, he added.

“Both of them worked as shop assistants at the mall.

“They did not have any prior criminal records and they tested negative for drugs,” he said.

ACP Mohd Azam said the incident occurred when both men were intoxicated after a drinking session.

“They have been remanded and we are investigating the case under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief,” he said.
