PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s evening meeting on Saturday (Sept 2) with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad raises questions on whether the PAS president was too unwell to cooperate with the police's ongoing sedition probes, says PKR deputy information chief Razeef Rakimin.
On Saturday evening, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police postponed an appointment to record a statement by Abdul Hadi after the latter’s aide said the PAS president was unwell.
On Aug 28, it was reported that Abdul Hadi is being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.
“However, on the evening of the same day, Abdul Hadi, three Mentris Besar from PAS as well as the PAS secretary-general had paid a visit to Dr Mahathir. Is Abdul Hadi lying to the police to avoid being probed,” said Razeef.
He added that what had been said by Abdul Hadi in his speech clearly undermined the decisions made by the Malay Rulers and it is seen to be against the decisions made by the Royal Institutions.
Abdul Hadi is being probed after he allegedly disputed the Pardons Board’s granting of pardons that was said to be unIslamic.
Abdul Hadi said the party who has the right to grant pardon is the victim’s family member, and not the Pardons Board.
“I hope the police will not be cheated by Abdul Hadi’s old tricks to avoid being probed by the authorities because of his speech," said Razeef.
This comes after a post on X, formerly Twitter, of a top-level PAS delegation at Dr Mahathir’s residence.
In the post, Abdul Hadi was seen with a group that included Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, and Terengganu Mentri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar among others.
Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nassaruddin Daud and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan were also seen in the post.
The picture posted by PAS Pusat on X, also saw several leaders aligned with Dr Mahathir such as Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Datuk Seri Marzuki Yahya present in the meeting.
Khairuddin said the meeting that took place for an hour-and-a-half was cordial and there were discussions on how to develop the economies of PAS-held states.
