Maid in protection, says ambassador, politician cries slander


PETALING JAYA: The maid who was allegedly abused by a politician is currently under the protection of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono.

In a brief text, Hermono said, "Yes, she is currently being given protection at the embassy,".

He was responding to the case of a 57-year-old woman from Central Java who was allegedly abused by her employer who is said to be a politician from a ruling party.

Meanwhile, in an immediate reply to The Star, the said politician claimed the allegation is slander and he added that he will be issuing a press statement on the matter soon.

When contacted, a police source familiar with the case confirmed that a report was lodged against the politician.

The source said investigations are ongoing and the suspect has yet to be arrested and added that the case is being investigated by the Ampang Jaya police.

When contacted, state police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that a police investigation has been launched.

He added that a press statement will be issued soon.
