Motorcyclist, toddler die, five others injured in early morning crash on NSE near Muar

MUAR: A motorcyclist died on the spot after he was hit by a car at the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound at 3.10am on Monday (Sept 4).

The incident took place when the victim skidded on the road and an oncoming motorcycle rider tried to avoid the victim but failed and skidded on the right-hand side of the highway.

“A car coming from the same direction tried to avoid the 20-year-old victim, who was lying on the road, but also failed and hit the victim,’’ Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said in a statement.

He said the driver of the car lost control and skidded on the left-hand side of the highway.

Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz said a one-and-the-half-month toddler who was in the car suffered major injuries in the crash and succumbed while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital Muar.

“Five people have been admitted to the hospital for treatments," he said.

Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged witnesses to come forward to assist with investigation.
