JOHOR BARU: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's gerrymandering claims are nothing more than ill-intentioned last-minute propaganda, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The Barisan Nasional deputy chairman said Perikatan is currently aiming at Umno supporters by blasting them with statements to incite fear to either vote for them in the by-elections or to not go out and vote.
“They are intentionally blasting propaganda cannonballs to create havoc or incite fear among voters, especially Umno supporters," said Mohamad.
“To them, they already have solid ‘hardcore’ supporters from PAS, and what they are aiming for right now is for our supporters to either vote for their candidate or not vote for our candidate from the unity government," he added.
Mohamad said this when met by reporters after the morning breakfast programme with Pulai parliamentary candidate Suhaizan Kayat at Warung Fendi Taman Cempaka, here on Monday (Sept 4).
He said this when asked to comment on Muhyiddin’s statement that the unity government will make constitutional amendments, including the redelineation of electoral constituencies.
The Umno deputy president and the unity government presidential council member said that he also never heard or received such proposals from any political parties under the coalition.
“Any suggestion will be brought to the council for discussion, and after that, we will discuss it at the Umno Supreme Council thoroughly before making any decision," said Mohamad
“Umno is not only representing the Malay but also Bumiputera and Islam; if any suggestions that will negatively affect the position of these three are made, we will not support them, and if any parties under the coalition reject an idea, it will no longer be valid," he added.
Meanwhile, Suhaizan said that he will take Muhyiddin’s negative statements about him as a challenge to serve the people better.
“I was quite shocked when someone like Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) would utter such remarks against me, who is much younger than him. Usually statements on what is haram comes from PAS; I did not imagine it to come from Bersatu," said Suhaizan.
“But regardless, I still have my respect for him, as he was a former leader when he was part of Pakatan Harapan, and he might have given the wrong opinion about me,” he added.
Muhyiddin was earlier reported to have made the statement that it is “haram” or sinful to vote for Pakatan Pulai parliamentary seat candidate Suhaizan.
He made the remark seemingly in jest during a Perikatan ceramah at Taman Kempas here on Saturday (Sept 2) night, which drew laughter from the crowd.
