EC: 90% turnout for early voting in Pulai


JOHOR BARU: The turnout for early voting for the Pulai parliamentary by-election was 90%, says the Election Commission (EC).

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said the early voting process for the by-election started at 8am on Tuesday (Sept 5).

"The early voting process for Pulai involved 831 police personnel and the voter turnout was 90%.

"The EC would like to congratulate the electoral officer and team for carrying out their responsibilities exceptionally," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ikmalrudin also expressed appreciation and thanks to the police, local authorities, Information Department, the media and all parties involved directly and indirectly for all the cooperation and support given to the EC.

The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections were held following the death of the incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

The EC has set polling day for the two by-elections for Saturday (Sept 9).

A total of 166,653 individuals are eligible to vote in Pulai and 40,379 in Simpang Jeram.
