GEORGE TOWN: An investigation paper on the riot between supporters of the Penang and Kedah football teams outside the City Stadium last month has been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s (DPP) office, says Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin.

“We have brought the investigation papers to the DPP office, and now we will wait,” said Khaw after the monthly assembly at state police headquarters on Tuesday (Sept 5).

A total of 27 men, aged between 18 and 38 years old, have been nabbed following the incident.

On Aug 23, police arrested seven suspects believed to be football fans after a Malaysia Super League (MSL) match in Penang, which ended with the visiting side winning.

It is believed that the fight started with a provocation between both groups at a petrol station outside the stadium.

The suspects detained were from Penang, Kedah, and Sarawak.

Another 20 individuals were arrested the following day in connection with the riot.

The case is being investigated under Section 148, Section 427, and Section 324 of the Penal Code for rioting, vandalism, and voluntarily causing harm with weapons.
