Pahang nets almost RM3mil in fines for encroachment since 2022

KUANTAN: The compound fines collected by the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) against encroachment activities including illegal mining amounted to almost RM3mil since 2022, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

He said that in the first eight months of this year, UPNP had busted 96 cases involving the confiscation of 229 units of machinery and exhibits, and collection of compounds worth RM1.4mil.

Last year, RM1.5mil in compounds was recorded following UPNP's enforcement action in 133 cases involving the seizure of 177 units of machinery and exhibits, he said.

"The Pahang government would like to stress that prosecution was conducted for all offences to serve as a deterrent against the encroachment of government land in the state," he told the State Legislative Assembly here Tuesday (Sept 5).

He was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif (BN-Inderapura) on the success achieved by UPNP in its enforcement activities.

Wan Rosdy said since 2021, a total of 36 cases of illegal gold mining were eradicated in Lipis and this indirectly led to the approval of the Mukim Kechau Minor Mining Scheme in Lipis in 2022, which has contributed mineral royalties of RM1.2mil to the state government as of August this year. - Bernama
